Microsoft have released Windows Vista Service |
It is now becoming easier and cheaper to access company data files from another office, or from home, and as companies grow and working practices change, this is an area in which we are working more frequently. Until the advent of ADSL (Broadband), the options were either an expensive tie-line (or leased line) between two sites, or a slow dial-up link. With ADSL there is now a competitive third option known as a VPN (Virtual Private Networking) connection. VPNs makes use of the internet as the linking medium, and because of competition in the supply of internet services, the connection costs for VPN are significantly lower than for leased lines, while speeds are comparable. You do not have to have ADSL at every location that wants to connect to the main office. As long as you have ADSL and a VPN service at the main location, then you can get benefits from a VPN even if you only have ISDN or analogue at some or all of the remote sites. There are equipment and set-up costs of course, but a recent installation that we undertook will give a return on investment in under twelve months. |
